SGA Meeting
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Union 301 – 9:15p.m.

Meeting called to order by Andrew Fox – 9:15p.m.
Prayer – Kathryn Feld 9:16p.m.

  • Thanks to those who came out and participated
  • We appreciate the support
• Induction Ceremony
  • Formal invite to Brother Gerry – Bless the pins and say a few words
  • Possibly invite more Christian Brothers
  • Stasia will contact Dr. Leauby
  • See Jess about creating a program for the ceremony
    • Look at previous years’ programs for event
    • Give about 2-2.5 weeks for Jess to get made
  • Formal Invitation to families:
    • Will mail to families of SGA members
  • Will meet with Carly and other freshman affiliates to further discuss duties
  • Make Agenda for planning ceremony and discuss with Dr. C at next E-Board Meeting on Tuesday
• Pig Roast
  • Everything is finalized for Thursday, October 16 (4:30-8:30pm)
  • Decorations around Buffet in Dining Room (B&G)
  • Do It Yourself Station
• Online Elections
  • Information Sessions will be held: Wed., Thurs., Fri. (October 8, 9, 10)
  • Free Period in the SGA Office, someone should always be in there
• Office Hours are mandatory, continue to keep logging in
• ASGA Overview
  • Town hall Meeting – would be chance for La Salle community to voice concerns, not necessarily complain about negative aspects of the university and surrounding community
    • Proposal to Dean of Students (with help from Trey)
    • Terranova/Pat Dougherty possibly on committee
    • Everything would be addressed
    • Other people from organizations would increase awareness of outside concerns
  • Contests – Marketing/Logo
    • Upcoming freshman elections
    • Try and contact entry level marketing classes
    • Incorporate some sort of extra credit assignment to best campaign the election
    • From that SGA would choose the best marketing approach
    • Offer some form of incentive of for the winner(s)
  • Slogan
    • Some sort of symbol representing SGA’s name out there
    • Associated with La Salle
    • (i.e. –Characteristics of an Explorer, Anchor – Anchoring your needs through service)
• Committee Reports
  • Student Press Committee
    • Wants to change to Student Media Committee
    • Concerns with Staff Advisors vs. Faculty Advisors
  • Health Committee
    • Weight Watcher’s on campus
      • $135 up front –see if GoldCard could be used
    • Bed Bugs – across America
      • La Salle is taking Preventive approaches
      • Health Services ahs 600 doses of vaccines
    • October 25 – 5k Walk around West Campus
    • Blood Drive – November 15 and 16, 2008
    • Smoking is trying to be banned on campus
    • HPV shots available on campus
  • Admissions Committee
    • Committee is trying to put everything together in terms of agendas for the year and key topics to focus on for prospective freshman next year
  • Athletics (Promotions)
    • Hoops Madness Fundraiser for Men’s and Woman’s Basketball teams
    • Thursday, November 6/ Time is (TBD)
    • Types of Competitions :
      • Men’s Dunk Contest
      • Women’s 3-point Contest
      • Dance Contest
      • Half Court Shot
    • First 300 people there will receive free Explorer Entourage shirt and free admission
    • Music and Food will be served
    • SGA-RSA Basketball game is in the works
  • Funding Board
    • Trying to alternate money among other organizations
• President’s Minute
  • Retreat every year – Build unity and discuss Basketball Marathon
  • Have about 12 freshman planning on running for Senate position
    • Most likely about 6 affiliates will remain throughout year
